Cel Sculpture

I call these cel sculptures because they make me think of old time animation where cels were used allowing for the basic backgrounds to remain the same while the animator changed the foreground. These sculptures are made of 4 resin plates, where I pour a layer of resin then I paint the ‘back’ and the ‘front’ of the image for each cel. The ‘back’ is the most difficult as I need to paint in reverse to generate the effect. The cels are then placed into a stand, where the observer is free to remove them and rearrange them so that the piece is most reflective of their own aesthetic.
